The skill of self confidence | Dr. Ivan Joseph | TEDxRyersonU

Never miss a talk! SUBSCRIBE to the TEDx channel: http://bit.ly/1FAg8hB

As the Athletic Director and head coach of the Varsity Soccer team at Ryerson University, Dr. Joseph is often asked what skills he is searching for as a recruiter: is it speed? Strength? Agility? In Dr. Joseph’s TEDx Talk, he explores self confidence and how it is not just the most important skill in athletics, but in our lives.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Love Ted Talks especially this one!
As a child I thought you were born with confidence or you were not. So its such a relief to know that its a skill you can grow.
I am currently doing a series on Confidence on my channel. Feed back and comments are welcome.

Hard to build any sort of confidence when you have nothing going for you and zero support system. No, you can’t just “go find positive people” or “learn a skill” because good people are impossible to find, and you need money and resources to do anything. Kinda hard when you’re stuck. I go by life experience and realities I’ve seen with my own eyes, not a utopia where everyone is helpful and anything is possible.

Hi I'm a soccer player from jamaica im very good but whenever i reach di feel my foot starts to shake i would like you to give me some tips on how to solve my low confidence

What we really mean when we say "self-confidence" is attaining what Freud called our "ego ideal". The problem is that in secular circles, there is no objective standard for what is "ideal". We could formulate a goal, only to have someone else tell us it's the WRONG goal. Either we must find the ultimate absolute (i.e. God), or we have to fight off those who question whether our own subjective wishes are in fact ideal. What results when each person's notion of an "ideal" self is subjective, as is the case in atheistic cultures and subcultures, is that people have to "one-up" one another to get a temporary power trip of feeling that by "owning" that other person, they have somehow demonstrated that they are more "ideal" than their opponent. This is the psychological basis of the Hobbesian jungle. Of course, if there is no God, then nothing matters or has any meaning, hence why it would be beneficial to believe in Him even if He did not exist.

Self confidence
“The ability or belief to believe in yourself, to accomplish any task, no matter the odds no matter the difficulty no matter the ‘adversity’
-With out this we are useless, because when we loose sight or belief in yourself were done for.
-Self confidence an be exorcised by repetition and persistence should be applied to ensure success.

“We are critical by the nature of what we do”
-what can we do? Fix mistakes

“Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong.”
